Welcome to our 9th year of SNAP! The Strafford Nordic Afterschool Program is open to all kids of BLK (Bill Koch League) age (grades K-8). .
COVID-19 Message: As of 12/11/2020: We will not offer a traditional SNAP program this year. Instead we are offering a special rate for kids and their parents to ski on Tuesdays without purchasing a season pass. We do not have rentals available for this season.
When you register for SNAP in 2020-21, you are purchasing a day pass for Tuesday afternoons for 8 weeks, January 5 – February 23, 2021 for $75. THERE WILL BE NO COACHING OR SUPERVISION FOR CHILDREN REGISTERED IN SNAP. The children in the SNAP program can come ski on Tuesdays, with one or both parents at no additional cost, between 12-4pm. Registration is required in advance and is due on or before January 5th.
If the state lifts their guidelines on outdoor recreational activities, before January 10th, we will offer a 6 week traditional SNAP program for $60 on Tuesdays at 3 pm starting January 12th. Families with season passes need not pay the additional fee. A small group of kids will ski with an adult volunteer for about an hour. Adults who bring their kids may ski free during this time, on your own or with a group of kids. Everyone will need to have their own ski equipment as we do not have rentals available for the 2020-21 season.
Standard Information that may not apply for 2021:
The K-8 SNAP program is on Tuesdays most years. This program is designed to get kids out on skis and having fun! If you have a child in 6-8 grades who is interested in racing, please check out our Strafford Nordic Ski Club page. Younger skiers who are interested in more training and some racing may be allowed to participate in the middle/high school racing program with approval of the Program Director.
Here’s how the SNAP program works: On ski days, student skiers will be split up into groups by age and ability, and each group will be headed by a volunteer adult who will take the group out on the trails for each practice. Volunteer helpers will be leading their groups under the guidance of our experienced coaches, with coaching tips and drills to work on for each practice. The primary goal of SNAP is to get kids to enjoy cross country skiing! If you are interested in helping to lead and/or ski with the kids, please indicate this on your registration form, or contact the Program Director. Experience is NOT necessary, either for volunteers or for participants!
The program will run for 8 weeks, the first Tuesday in January (after New Year’s through late February. The ski session will run from 3:30-4:30pm (a bit later as it stays light). Newton school students may take the bus to the Nordic Center with a note – however skis are not allowed on the bus.
The SNAP fee is $75 for the Tuesday program. Registration forms are due by January 1st. Late registrations should add $10 and will only be accepted if there is room in the program.
Rentals are available free for Strafford residents, or for $40 for non-residents during the program times, but must be reserved prior to the start of the program by visiting our lodge and reserving the correct size. Sizing is limited so please be sure to reserve your equipment before the first day of the program.
To register for the program please print the SNAP registration form and return it to Strafford Nordic Center with payment, or pay on-line.
